Separate module

Separate modules are independent modules (5–20 ECTS) that can be established outside of existing part-time degree programmes at higher adult and continuing education level. Applications concerning the establishment of separate modules must include, among other things, the following elements involving some form of stakeholder involvement:

  • Documented description of the labour market’s needs for the competencies provided by the module (description may include statements from labour market parties, public and private companies, employer panels and the Committee on Education. Statistical documentation must also be included).
  • Academic grounds for why the module cannot be offered as part of an existing part-time degree programme or as a single-subject course from an existing full-time degree programme. A separate module can thus only be approved if, on academic grounds, it cannot be established and offered as part of an existing degree programme.
  • An assessment that the offering of the new separate module at academy or diploma level will not lead to new competition for private course providers, cf. section 11(3) of the Danish Act on Open Education.

The following minimum requirements for needs analysis and involvement of prospective employers can be deduced:

-        Statement on labour market needs

-        Opinions from labour market parties – consultation/declaration of support

-        Employer panel – consultation

-        Study board – consultation or similar

-        Statistical documentation

-        Statement on related degree programmes (focus on the fact that the module cannot be created under an existing degree programme)

-        Statement on/assessment of private providers (academy and diploma level)
