Institutional accreditation

Checking the quality of the entire institution instead of each degree programme

A new Danish Act on accreditation came into force on 1 July 2013, as a result of which institutional accreditation replaced accreditation of individual degree programmes. Aarhus University received institutional accreditation in 2018.

Institutional accreditation clearly places responsibility for the quality assurance and development of degree programmes on the institution concerned and its management. To achieve accreditation, AU demonstrated that we have an effective quality assurance system and a strong culture of quality. The university must undergo reaccreditation in 2024 at the latest.

A natural feature of quality assurance at AU

At AU, our quality assurance policy for degree programmes is a natural point of focus for quality assurance work – and therefore for our accreditation work as well. This will ensure that institutional accreditation not only forms part of the strategic development of degree programmes at AU, but is also coordinated with other development initiatives within education, ensuring that work continues to be anchored in ongoing operations, even after the end of the programme.
