Changes to existing degree programmes

Changes to existing degree programmes

Once a year, Aarhus University can apply to the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science for permission to change existing degree programmes. The deadline is 15 September.

Changes applied for by Aarhus University will apply to students starting their studies the following year, provided that the requests are granted by the agency.

Application forms for change requests can be found on the agency’s website. These forms must be completed in connection with the internal process at AU, which runs from May to September each year. An overall timeline of the internal process prior to the submission of change requests to the agency on 15 September can be found here

Aarhus University can apply for the following changes:

  • Change of the name of an existing degree programme and/or the title conferred on graduates
  • Merging of existing degree programmes without prequalification
  • Discontinuation of a degree programme
  • Changing the language of instruction from a foreign language to Danish
  • Changing any maximum limit for admissions
  • Changing the prescribed time to degree
  • Changing specific admission requirements
  • Changing grade requirements
  • Changing language requirements – see the  Ministry’s letter on current rules in this area.

In the column on the left you can read more about the processes of discontinuing or merging degree programmes without prequalification. The Committee on Education is involved in these processes because the discontinuation or merging of degree programmes has an impact on AU’s overall degree programme portfolio. These internal processes are therefore more extensive than the processes involved in simply making changes to existing degree programmes.
