Workshop

Application types

New degree programmes and offerings, the merging of degree programmes, separate modules.

Please note that the description is primarily aimed at applications for new degree programmes and offerings, but that the method can also be used for other application types. Applications for new degree programmes and offerings are subject to the most extensive documentation requirements. Therefore, the use of the method must reflect the documentation requirements associated with the individual application types and associated guides. Examples of different application types are listed to the extent that the method has been used in specific AU applications.

Purpose

Presentation of the programme/module to relevant prospective employers and stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss different aspects of the degree programme/module and the needs of prospective employers. Involvement of prospective employers/stakeholders. Build networks to pave the way for future collaboration on projects, internships etc.

Target group

Wide range of relevant prospective employers/stakeholders. Alternatively, as part of an employer panel/employer forum meeting.

How

Presentation of programme/module from the academic environment. Discussion of various themes that stakeholders have knowledge about and which can be used in the development of the degree programme. For example, competency requirements for different career paths and relevant projects/internships.

Minutes from the workshop can be used to document the stakeholders’ needs assessments if the workshop also serves as a consultation with prospective employers. The minutes should be sent out to the participants, who can then be asked to confirm the conclusions and perhaps briefly confirm the assessed need again.

When

Can be used at different phases of the process – perhaps also as a final consultation with prospective employers (see above about minutes).

Pros

Opportunities for discussions and exchanges of input among prospective employers.

Active involvement of prospective employers in the degree programme, which can lead to more committed collaboration later on.

Cons

Calls for special attention to how input is retained and what output you get from the workshop.

Takes time to come up with an outline that you can present and that is also open to negotiation.

Requires greater coordination efforts to get the most relevant participants.
