Analysis of related degree programmes including latest unemployment figures

Application types

New degree programmes and offerings, the merging of degree programmes, separate modules

Please note that the description is primarily aimed at applications for new degree programmes and offerings, but that the method can also be used for other application types. Applications for new degree programmes and offerings are subject to the most extensive documentation requirements. Therefore, the use of the method must reflect the documentation requirements associated with the individual application types and associated guides. Examples of different application types are listed to the extent that the method has been used in specific AU applications.

Purpose

Demonstrate that the degree programme differs significantly from existing programmes, unless an unmet need has been identified in society/the labour market for existing degree programmes/offerings. In this case, the existence of an unmet need can be substantiated by generally low unemployment figures for the related degree programmes. Document the need for the degree programme based on low unemployment rates for related degree programmes.

Identify any competing stakeholders (providers) that should be consulted.

Target group

Related degree programmes at own and other institutions in Denmark.

How

1. Identify related degree programmes, e.g. based on knowledge in the academic environment and searches on the www.ug.dk portal.

2. Carry out brief comparisons based on the following themes:

- Similarities and differences between general degree programme profiles

- Similarities and differences in didactic and pedagogical structure

- Similarities and differences in course offerings

- Similarities and differences in job function after completed degree programme

- Latest unemployment figures (or equivalent employment statistics).

Start with a brief description of the degree programme itself, referencing these themes. Next, make a list of related degree programmes. Then do a brief description of each programme, referencing the four themes, including unemployment figures.

Final conclusion.

When

It is a good idea to identify related degree programmes prior to consultations with prospective employers asking them to express an opinion on their need for graduates from related programmes.
