Digital Competency Profiles at Health

Digital Competence Profiles and Health’s Digital Competence Model

At Health, we are developing digital competence profiles for our degree programmes. This work is part of  AU’s strategic initiative "Digital Competent Graduates"

The digital competence profiles describe the digital competencies our graduates should have when they complete their degree programmes at Health.

Health’s Digital Competence Model

Health’s Digital Competence Model provides the framework for the development of the programmes’ digital competence profiles.

When the programmes work with the competence model, it takes place at three levels:

  1. a shared language for digital competencies across Health programmes
  2. a tool for describing and developing the programmes’ digital competence profiles

Find the model here

When the programmes work with the competence model, it takes place at three levels:

  1. Faculty level
  2. Educational level
  3. Course level

The faculty level consists of five overall competence elements. These competence elements are shared across the faculty and define the five overarching competencies that Health’s graduates should possess.

At the educational level, examples are provided for each of the five competence elements of themes that may be relevant to consider when formulating the digital competence profile.

The themes are examples intended to help the programmes identify the areas that are relevant to their discipline.

The course level goes one step further and provides examples of activities, content, and learning objectives that can be incorporated into the design of teaching and in course descriptions.

The development and work on the competency model and the competency profiles of the study programmes

Health's Digital Competence Model was first piloted at Public Health Science in the spring of 2023.

The model was subsequently refined and formed the basis for all study boards to develop their own digital competence profiles in the autumn of 2023, involving relevant course coordinators.

All of Health's degree programs had their digital competence profiles approved in 2024.

Integrated into the core competency profile

The digital competence profiles are being continuously integrated into the overall competence profiles of the degree programmes in connection with scheduled revisions of the curricula.

However, for a few programmes, the digital competence profile will be added without a curriculum revision (in Sept. 2025).
