75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes

As a result of the political agreement on the framework for the reform of university education in Denmark (the Master’s reform), it is possible to offer 75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes.

Terms of the political agreement:

  • 75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes can be offered as full-time degree programmes with two semesters of 30 ECTS each and a final assignment of 15 ECTS written over the summer
  • Students on a 75 ECTS Master’s degree programme will be offered a range of new opportunities for further education
  • 75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes will rank at the same level as 120 ECTS Master’s degree programmes, i.e. level 7 in the Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
  • The 15 ECTS final assignment must still be research-based

75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes are thus complete and degree-granting programmes with a prescribed time to degree of 12 months.

Quality boost:

When applying for the prequalification of new 75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes, educational institutions are expected to describe the quality objectives they are working towards and how they are reflected in the programme.

The Master’s degree committee recommends that the quality ambitions for the new 75 ECTS Master’s degree programmes be based on the following: (Master’s degree committee’s final report: Fremtidens kandidatlandskab (Master’s degree landscape of the future), p. 9, November 2024):

  • Increased contact between students and lecturers: For example, more teaching hours, learning formats such as individual feedback, organisation in smaller groups and the like, quality-supporting activities in connection with exams or the final assignment, or activities related to business collaboration and other forms of practice involvement.
  • Strong didactic competencies: For example, through the upskilling of lecturers, developing new forms of learning and planning teaching activities with a focus on participatory and engaging formats.
  • Improved well-being and a good study environment: For example, additional quality-supporting activities in connection with the commencement of studies, or activities that support the physical, social and learning aspects of the study environment

The Committee on Education at AU is currently preparing a catalogue of ideas for the academic environments and their efforts to boost quality/quality objectives.
