Since 2019, it has been possible to apply for permission to offer separate modules. Separate modules are independent modules that can be established outside of existing part-time higher adult and continuing education programmes to improve responsiveness to new skills needs in the labour market.
Separate modules can be offered at academy and diploma level with a scope of either 5 or 10 ECTS and at executive Master programme level with a scope of between 5 and 20 ECTS credits. At the time of their establishment, such modules must not be part of an existing post-secondary degree. Also, separate modules must be part-time to allow the modules to be taken by people in full-time employment.
The submission of an application for approval of a separate module by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science is preceded by an internal process at AU. Please note that plans to apply for permission to offer separate modules must be notified to Educational Development and Analysis approximately 8 weeks before the desired date for consideration by the Committee on Education.
Applications are discussed by the Committee on Education with a view to being able to provide feedback to the academic environment. Following the consideration of applications by the Committee on Education, it is possible to adjust the applications. Educational Development and Analysis undertakes final quality assurance of applications before they are submitted to the Ministry just under 2 weeks after their consideration by the Committee on Education.
The offering of separate modules is authorised by the Ministry, which has designed a specific application form for this purpose. Applications concerning the establishment of separate modules can be submitted on an ongoing basis. A response to the application can be expected approximately 4 weeks after submission.
