Well-being

Frameworks must support learning, engagement and well-being

Aarhus BSS aims to provide an attractive study environment, which contributes to attracting and retaining Danish and international students. A good study environment entails academic and social integration, involvement, and well-being to support learning.

This is why the Danish Student Survey is conducted. The purpose of the survey is to map students’ well-being and experience of the study environment. The academic environments are involved in this work, as the results are always discussed in the boards of studies. From here, the dialogue between directors of studies and heads of studies is an important instrument in follow-up and potential development initiatives.

The vice-dean for education prepares a follow-up procedure and discusses the faculty’s results with the faculty management team and the Aarhus BSS Forum for Education. Student Guidance and Information and other relevant parties also contribute to promoting both academic and social well-being among students.

In short, Aarhus BSS works on the basis of the idea that social and academic well-being are linked. Student well-being contributes to academic performance, and academic performance enhances student well-being.

Study environment

Aarhus BSS aims to provide teaching environments that promote academic standards, social well-being and in-depth study. This is done by ensuring that classrooms fulfil their function and that it is possible to use quiet reading rooms and work in group rooms. In addition, there must be time and space to use our rooms for social activities.

The academic environments and the administration cooperate closely on the various initiatives to ensure coherence between teaching/academic standards and initiatives from the Student Counsellors' Office, student associations etc.

Associations

Aarhus BSS has a wide range of clubs and societies, which are run on a voluntary basis by the students themselves. These clubs and societies include everything from degree programme committees and lecture societies to Friday bars, social clubs and student revues.

Code of conduct

To create a uniform and transparent framework, Aarhus BSS operates with a code of conduct that applies to all students. Aarhus BSS' code of conduct describes basic values and expectations of student behaviour on university premises or as representatives of Aarhus University.

Harassment, bullying and discrimination

Aarhus BSS has room for everyone. Harassment, bullying, violence and discrimination will not be tolerated, so a process has been established to deal with offensive behaviour.

If students experience being subjected to harassment, bullying, violence or discrimination at Aarhus BSS,  whether from fellow students or employees, they are encouraged to contact a student counsellor or student welfare counsellor, who can help with the situation.
