Academic supervision

Collaboration between students and academic staff is the point of departure for the learning process. As a part of this collaboration, the student receives ongoing academic supervision and feedback.

In dialogue with the board of studies, the head of department establishes guidelines for the students’ rights to academic supervision and feedback. The lecturer offers supervision and feedback to the students in the form and to the extent that has been agreed on. Various forms of supervision and feedback are used in most courses, particularly in relation to major written assignments such as the Bachelor's project, project placement and Master's thesis. At oral exams, feedback is always given in connection with a grade. Feedback on exams is also provided if the student requests this from the lecturer.

Feedback can take many forms. For instance, it can be given in connection with presentations by students, writing exercises, supervision, through group discussions, through quizzes, through mini-cases, etc.

Lecturers can find inspiration from AU Educate and the Centre for Educational Development, which advises on guidance and feedback.

Students who need individual planning of progression in their study programme can seek help from the Student Counsellors' Office.
