Student guidance – professional support for students' courses of study
Guidance and Study Information at Aarhus BSS, commonly referred to as the Student Counsellors’ Office, consists of an administrative officer, permanent student welfare counsellors and student counsellors (part-time student workers), student assistants and study facilitators.
The Student Counsellors' Office offers guidance to all students and potential students and, in accordance with the principles for student counselling at Aarhus University, supports:
- That (future) students make carefully considered choices of degree programme based on knowledge of academic content, requirements, study environment and career prospects
- That students become socially and academically integrated into their degree programmes during their first year of study
- That students make relevant and informed choices during their course of study
- Students' ability and agency to cope with study-related challenges
- The creation of a well-functioning study environment that secures well-being in the academic environments and on campus in general
- That knowledge about student behavioural patterns is shared with the academic environments, thereby contributing to improving the quality of degree programmes
- That potential and current students can easily gain an overview of the job and career opportunities arising from individual degree programme
This support is provided in close collaboration between Guidance and Study Information, the studies administration at Aarhus BSS, AU Student Administration and Services, the Dean's Office and the academic environments, and it includes initiatives such as:
- Planning and participating in recruitment events for potential students
- Communicating welcome and guidance services during the introductory programme, as well as upgrading tutor initiatives
- Ensuring relevant and accessible degree programme information via study portals, Brightspace and emails
- Sharing knowledge and management information with the academic environments on students’ programme completion, well-being and perceived study competencies
- Collective and individual guidance activities to support student well-being, retention and programme completion
- A joint entry to the studies administration at Aarhus BSS via Aarhus BSS Student Services.
