Since 2007, Aarhus University has performed a study environment survey every three years. Since 2020, the survey has been performed as an integrated part of the national survey carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science: the Danish Student Survey.
The Danish Student Survey is conducted every two years and consists of two questionnaires, one for students and one for graduates.
The questionnaire is sent to all students at institutions under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and consists of two main modules: the Degree Programme Zoom and the Learning Barometer. In addition, institutions can add their own questions.
The questionnaire asks about students' academic and social well-being. It covers a wide range of topics, including well-being, feedback, contact with teaching staff, physical conditions, stress and loneliness, as well as harassment.
Communication and follow-up on the AU study environment survey
The results of AU's study environment survey are communicated partly via topic reports in AU's Power BI system, and partly in memos on the themes below:
Follow-up on the results of the survey is partly through day-to-day, ongoing quality assurance of the degree programmes, and partly through clearly defined elements in AU's quality assurance system such as annual status reviews of the degree programmes and degree programme evaluations.
Every three years, the university also conducts an assessment of the teaching environment. The assessment of the teaching environment is conducted to ensure a good teaching environment that meets proper health and safety standards.
The assessment of the teaching environment is based on results from the student survey, which is designed to help identify and describe the teaching environment with a view to drawing up action plans to improve any identified challenges.
