Pedagogical competency development

To ensure continuing focus on and prioritisation of university pedagogical development activities at Aarhus BSS that are consistent with the faculty strategy as well as department needs,  these activities are anchored in the faculty’s committee for university teaching.

The ministerial order on job structure for academic staff stresses the managerial responsibility to ensure that lecturers maintain and develop their pedagogical-didactic competencies, and therefore the departments have overall responsibility for drawing up a plan for this.

Lecturers can develop their pedagogical competencies, e.g. by participating in courses offered by the Centre for Educational Development (CED), where they can also receive advice and sparring on the development of their teaching activities.

In addition, Aarhus BSS provides two compulsory CED courses:

Success stories

The students’ comments and general feedback on the teaching are included in the development of teaching activities and the lecturers’ pedagogical development.

In autumn 2021, Aarhus BSS gathered experience and practice related to online teaching during the Covid-19 lockdowns with a view to continuing developing engaging teaching and learning at the faculty. The resulting report has been discussed and shared widely within the faculty, and conclusions and cases from the report have been included in the development of pedagogical-didactic courses.
