Research-based teaching/knowledge base

Most of the teaching activities on the research-based degree programmes at Technical Sciences are carried out by active, tenured researchers. On the career-focused Bachelor of Engineering programmes, the teaching is provided by lecturers with experience from both academia and business and industry.

Particularly on the Bachelor of Engineering programmes, external lecturers contribute to a certain extent with the aim of integrating application perspectives into the teaching activities. In cases where teaching is undertaken by fixed-term academic staff (DVIPs), they work with a tenured course coordinator (VIP), who ensures that the DVIPs apply the latest research/development in their teaching. As a general rule, DVIPs cannot serve as course coordinators at Technical Sciences.

Staffing plans

The head of department is responsible for the staffing of teaching activities. See  Aarhus University’s guidelines for ensuring the knowledge base of degree programmes (research-based and development-based teaching)

In connection with the systematic review of the degree programmes through annual status reviews and degree programme evaluations, staffing plans are also discussed.
