A degree programme can be discontinued at the request of the dean of a faculty and with the approval of the Rector. The Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education must be informed of the discontinuation of the programme and approve the phase-out plan before the programme is phased out. It should be noted that discontinuation does not refer to cases where admission to a degree programme is paused for a period of time, but only to cases where a degree programme is discontinued for ever.
Please note that applications for programme discontinuations are on the change request list for which the annual deadline is 15 September. We recommend that you apply by this deadline; however, it is possible to submit applications to the agency on an ongoing basis as the need arises.
The internal process at AU can be seen here.
The dean’s request must be addressed to the Rector and sent to Educational Development and Analysis. The request must contain the information required by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science in connection with the approval of the phase-out plan, see letter for this. Educational Development and Analysis is available for sparring with the faculty in connection with the application process and content.
Educational Development and Analysis forwards the dean’s request to the Committee on Education for a two-week consultation and then prepares a recommendation to the Rector. The Rector processes the request and a recommendation, after which Educational Development and Analysis forwards the Rector’s response to the dean. Educational Development and Analysis then communicates widely about the discontinuation of the degree programme, both internally and to the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education and the Danish Accreditation Institution.
