Organisation of teaching and exams

Objective of planning teaching activities and exams

The objective of planning teaching activities and exams is to ensure:

  • That teaching and exams are planned as well as possible in relation to the academic content and objectives of the course
  • That students and teaching staff have an opportunity to plan and prepare for the semester as early as possible
  • That students and teaching staff divide course and examination activities as well as possible
  • That university premises are utilised as well as possible

Important for you at Health

Students

For students, the planning of teaching and exams must ensure:

  • A balanced timetable, with teaching evenly distributed throughout the semester
  • That the timetable is available well in advance of registration for courses in the coming semester, making it possible to plan the course of study well in advance
  • The best possible preparation time for ordinary exams and reexamination.
  • That assessment takes place as soon as possible after the exam

Lecturers and course coordinators

For teaching staff and course organisers, the planning of teaching activities and exams must ensure:

  • That teaching is planned as well as possible in relation to the academic content and objectives of the course
  • That the exam is scheduled as well as possible in relation to the teaching

The individual course coordinator approves teaching and exam schedules before plans and dates are announced to the students

Boards of studies and directors of studies

According to the University Act, the board of studies is responsible for ensuring the planning, execution and development of degree programmes and teaching activities, and, working with the director of studies, is responsible for the practical organisation of teaching and exams.

By establishing principles for how teaching and exams should be organised, the board of studies can influence the scheduling of individual courses and exam.

Heads of department and deputy heads of department

The department management team can recommend principles for planning teaching activities and exams.

The department management team is responsible for resources, i.e. for providing teaching staff and examiners.

Our process for planning teaching activities and exams

Health Studies Administration is responsible for planning courses and examinations.

We are constantly working to optimise our planning processes through close dialogue with the academic environments at the departments. We focus on simplifying and aligning our processes so that they are transparent for students, teaching staff and department management teams.

Among other things, we work on the basis of some general principles when we plan our courses and examinations. The principles are available to everyone, and we use them to ensure uniformity and high quality in the planning of all our course and examination activities across our degree programmes.

Teaching schedules

We publish the teaching schedules for students at the end of April for the autumn semester and the end of October for the spring semester. This means that students can see the teaching schedules before registering for courses.

Exam schedules

We publish the exam schedules no later than 15 September for the winter term and no later than 15 February for the summer term. This is to ensure that students know about their exam schedule well in advance and can plan their course of study accordingly.
