Work placement and project placement

At Natural Sciences, we educate students in the basic natural science disciplines, and give them the opportunity to work with issues and solutions of relevance to society. Through their degree programme, students have the opportunity to test the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, e.g. through project placements, Bachelor’s projects and Master’s theses (including theses in collaboration with a company/ organisation). By doing such projects, students gain knowledge about the job market outside the university, and are able to start thinking about their future career while still studying.

Projects can be established on the initiative of a student or via thr AU Job and Project Bank, where companies can promote projects they want to set up in collaboration with students.

For all ECTS-accredited projects, students are assigned a supervisor from the university, who also acts as the examiner. In addition, a project supervisor must be assigned from the company/institution where the project is to be carried out.

Project contract:

  • The student, the supervisor and the company draw up a project contract together, which describes the purpose of the project, defines the topic, includes a supervision and project plan as well as information about the resources that must be made available and deadlines.
  • The contract is created via the Contract Generator and signed by the student, the company and the supervisor, after which it is approved by the head of the degree programme before the project begins.

Evaluation of projects:

  • Projects are evaluated in writing using an evaluation form that has certain similarities with the evaluation form used when evaluating the faculty’s other ordinary course activities. However, a number of additional questions are asked about issues of particular relevance to projects.

Data from projects:

  • Data from project evaluations is sent to the department management team, the head of degree programmes and the director of studies. The main responsibility for looking into the data and discussing it with the head of department, as needed, rests with the head of degree programme. The same applies if the director of studies has any comments.
  • Data is not sent out at supervisor level. This is to ensure anonymity. If deemed relevant at department level, the department management can work with the project evaluation culture.
