Progression on the degree programme

It is important that the academic objectives are explicit and clearly described so that they can form the basis for an assessment of the student’s fulfilment of the objectives. The academic objectives must clearly demonstrate programme progression.

Progression takes place along a number of dimensions, including:

Thematic progression:

This occurs when new fields of study are introduced (horizontal progression).

Knowledge level:

Knowledge, skills and competencies may also be mastered to an increasing level of complexity and/or confidence and independence (vertical progression)

Context:

The level of complexity of the context in which knowledge must be demonstrated may also increase.
