Continuing and further education

AU’s Strategy 2025 states that the university’s goal is to contribute to meeting society's increasing demand for the continuing education of the workforce through research-based further and continuing education, for example in connection with the increased digitalisation of society. The existing continuing and further education models are currently under pressure. To this end, the university wants to work with new models that can meet the need for new competencies on the part of both graduates and the labour market, now and in future.

Graduates and alums from AU, and managers and employees at companies and organisations are encouraged to develop and maintain their competencies through lifelong learning, for example by taking part in the activities available on AU's portal for continuing and further education.

AU's continuing and further education programmes are organised in close dialogue with employers and organisations. Further education (FE) students incorporate their practical experience into the learning processes and are given the opportunity to test theories in practice.

Educational Development and Analysis supports the faculties' quality assurance with the annual distribution of data packages, which are released on 1 April. The FE data packages contribute to the data basis for the faculties' assessment of the quality and relevance of their degree programmes.

An “FE Annual Report” is also published every year, identifying the scope of FE activities, types of degree programmes, employers, etc. A new survey of the labour market for FE students will be presented in 2023 and this will contribute to the assessment of the relevance of degree programmes.

To ensure exchange of experience, coordination and collaboration regarding continuing and further education across the faculties' administrative centres and AU's shared functions, we have established an interdisciplinary core activity committee for continuing and further education (the FE committee). The members of the committee are appointed by the managers of the faculties' administrative centres, and the committee receives administrative support from Educational Development and Analysis.
