Development of degree programmes at Aarhus University – existing and new – is based on the quality assurance policy and the current strategy, and is in close dialogue with employers so that programmes meet society's needs.
The common framework for degree programme development is discussed regularly by the Committee on Education. The committee establishes principles and procedures for ensuring the continued development of existing degree programmes, e.g. for annual status reviews and degree programme evaluations.
With a positive institutional accreditation, i.e. approval of our quality assurance system, we have an opportunity to develop our degree programmes to a certain extent in accordance with applicable principles and procedures. However, several factors go beyond what our institutional accreditation allows us to do, and as a result we have to seek approval from the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science and the Minister for Higher Education.
Guidance in relation to the processes and conditions surrounding new degree programmes and our selection of degree programmes is available from Education Development and Quality Assurance in Educational Development and Analysis.
The Committee on Education and the senior management team have overall responsibility for ensuring that new degree programmes are offered in accordance with the university's strategy and quality assurance policy. A joint application process for new degree programmes has been established to support this work and the process leading up to the necessary prequalification (approval of the new degree programme by the Minister for Higher Education and Science). Read more about this on the resource page for development of new and existing degree programmes. The resource page also has examples of tools that can be used in connection with the application process.
For a number of matters relating to changes to existing degree programmes, e.g. changes in titles, closures, etc., approval is required from the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science. An overview of these matters, including descriptions of procedures, examples, etc., is on the resource page.
